The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office released on Friday, February 22nd, 2019 the cause of death of KTLA 5 weekend morning news anchor Chris Burrous.
According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, KTLA 5 weekend morning news anchor Chris Burrous died of methamphetamine toxicity, and has ruled Chris Burrous’ death as accidental.
In addition to methamphetamine toxicity, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office say other contributing factors in Chris Burrous’ death include hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular heart disease.
The beloved KTLA 5 weekend morning news anchor died after being found room unconscious on December 27th, 2018 inside a motel room at the Days Inn in Glendale, California with a male companion.
According to the Glendale Police Department, police received a call at about 1:15pm PT from a man who said a man at the Days Inn, located at 450 Pioneer Drive, had passed out and was possibly not breathing.
Firefighters from the Glendale Fire Department responded to the scene and found a male, later identified as 43 year old Chris Burrous, inside a room and not breathing.
Firefighters administered CPR and Chris Burrous was then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
According to the Glendale Police Department, no criminal charges were filed against the male companion, who reportedly administered aid before first responders arrived at the scene.

The loss of Chris Burrous came to a shock to many people who love the KTLA 5 weekend morning news anchor.
Chris Burrous was a fixture on the KTLA 5 Morning News since 2011 and has been brightening up viewer’s mornings with his funny humor on the morning news and letting viewers know where are the best places to eat around southern California in “Burrous’ Bites”.
Chris Burrous, the son of a farmer and a NASA engineer, launched his two-decade career after graduating from Chapman University with a degree in broadcast journalism.
Chris Burrous came to KTLA Channel 5 in 2011 after spending 14 years as a reporter and anchor at news stations across the United States, primarily in the Central Valley area of California, where one of his parents was from.
After stints at stations in the Bay Area and South Dakota, Chris Burrous joined KGET Channel 17 in Bakersfield, California in 1999 as a morning news anchor. It was there that he met his wife, Mai Do-Burrous, a fellow journalist. The couple wed in 2003 and share a 9 year old daughter, Isabella.
After anchoring the morning news at both KGPE Channel 47 in Fresno, California and KMAX-TV Channel 31 in Sacramento, California, Chris Burrous accepted his first job outside California with KTLA sister station WPIX Channel 11 in New York City, New York where he was an anchor.
Upon leaving New York for Los Angeles, Chris Burrous told the New York Daily News he asked for a transfer so that his daughter could grow up near her grandparents. The family wound up settling in Porter Ranch.
Well at KTLA Channel 5, Chris Burrous helped extend to Morning News to seven days a week, anchoring weekends and covering breaking news on weekday mornings.
Chris Burrous’ weekend Burrous’ Bites segments, on which he highlighted the best hole-in-the-wall eateries Southern California has to offer, were a viewer favorite.
Chris Burrous was also an integral part of the news team at KTLA Channel 5, leading news coverage of California’s recent devastating wildfires and ensuing weather hazards as well as tragedies such as the mass deadly shooting at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California.
Chris Burrous was laid to rest on Friday, January 11th, 2019 on what would have been his 44th birthday.
Chris Burrous is survived by his wife Mai and 9 year old daughter Isabella.
