Needles, CA: Volunteering together to gave out 1,000 bags of turkey, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables and pumpkin pie during Holiday Meal Giveaway 2018.

Local families lined up for a Holiday Meal Giveaway 2018 held on Thursday, December 20th, 2018 near the San Bernardino County Public Library in Needles, California.

The giveaway was put together through the generous of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and the Avi Resort and Casino, along with considerable support from the City of Needles and volunteers from all of those organizations.

The spirit of helping the community began hours before the giveaway started, volunteers from the Avi Resort and Casino worked non-stop preparing 1,000 bags of turkey, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables and pumpkin pie, enough to feed a family of four people, to be handed out during the giveaway.

In the distance, a small group of people began to line up along the grass area and parked inside their vehicles in the near by parking lot all awaiting to giveaway to start.

Just an hour before the giveaway, that small group of people got larger, with a line of people pass the grass area to the sidewalk and a long line of vehicles stretched down along Bailey Avenue.

Just before the giveaway started, Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Chairman Timothy Williams and Needles City Council Member Shawn Gudmundson spoke to the large crowd of people, thanking everybody coming out and thanked all the great people who helped put this giveaway together.

As the giveaway begun, volunteers from members of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe, Avi Resort and Casino and public works crews and officials from the City of Needles began giving out meal bags.

Soon deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River State and even ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez join up and gave out meal bags as more and more people arrived to the giveaway.

Lopez spoke with Interview with Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Chairman Timothy Williams (On The Right) and Needles City Council Member Shawn Gudmundson (On The Left) about the Holiday Meal Giveaway 2018, how this giveaway was all put together and what this giveaway means to the many people who came out to receive a wonderful holiday meal.

As evening arrived, vehicles and people continued to arrive, some helping other people in their community by delivery bags to people who aren’t able to make the giveaway.

At the end of the giveaway, all 1,000 bags were given out to the community, bring lots of joy to families who wouldn’t had a Christmas and holiday dinner together; when the call to help our community is ringing, the call gets answered by wonderful and caring people.
