Needles, CA: Fort Mojave Indian Days 2018.
The Fort Mojave Indian Tribe is proud to announce the celebration of Fort Mojave Indian Days, being held from Monday, October 22nd, 2018 to Saturday, October 27th, 2018.
The theme for this year’s festivities is Mojave Strong- Empowering our future through culture, tradition and wellness. Throughout the week, the tribe will host a number of community events emphasizing Mojave traditions aimed at promoting community involvement and increased health and wellbeing.
The 42nd Annual Fort Mojave Indian Days will begin the week with celebrations for the tribe’s youth and elders Monday, October 22nd, 2018 through Wednesday, October 24th, 2018. Events will include cultural activities and favorite games that underscore connections to the rich heritage of the Mojave people.
Thursday’s activities will begin before sunrise with a Spirit Run originating at Avi Kwa Ame, or “Spirit Mountain,” the source of the tribe’s beliefs and customs. More than 50 runners, ranging in age from 5 to 70 years will pass through traditional Mojave lands in an effort to celebrate and fulfill the enduring spirit of the Mojave people and the runners.
The 2018-2019 Fort Mojave Indian Tribal Royalty will be selected Thursday evening at the Royalty Pageant. Tribal youth aged 8-12 and young men and women aged 13-26 are eligible to compete for the titles of Fort Mojave Brave, Little Miss Fort Mojave, Junior Miss Fort Mojave and Miss Fort Mojave.
The Fort Mojave Days Celebration will peak with weekend events beginning on Friday, October 26, with a Nature Walk at 7:00am PT in Needles, California, followed by a Golf Tournament at 8:00am PT at the Mojave Resort Golf Club in Laughlin, Nevada.
Language, culture and traditional food practices will be featured all day Friday with several Tribal Workshops presented by the Macav Chukwar Language Department, the Aha Macav Culture Society and by traditional Mojave food makers. These workshops will be held at several locations on the reservation, allowing participants the opportunity to explore a variety of subjects while providing the time to thoroughly understand them. During the day’s workshops, participants will also be able to enjoy a luncheon from 12:00pm to 1:00pm PT in the Tribal Gymnasium.
The celebration will continue beginning at 10:00am PT on Saturday, October 27, 2018 with the Fort Mojave Indian Days Parade in Downtown Needles, California. The parade will begin at ‘I’ Street and Front Street, going along Broadway and ending at Broadway and D Street.
Streets along West Broadway between I Street and D Street will be closed before the parade, and motorists can use either Third Street or Interstate 40 as a east and west detour alternates.
The public should arrive earlier for the parade so to get the best seat along the parade route.

Parade winners will be announced at 12:00pm PT, immediately following the Tribal Council’s Welcome and introduction of the 2018-2019 Fort Mojave Royalty. Entertainment will then begin in the California Tribal Park along with the Women’s Bird Dancing and Men’s Bird Singing Group contest.
On Saturday, sign-ups will begin in the morning for an assortment of traditional and non-traditional competitions, including the Horseshoe Tournament and Frybread Eating Contest, as well as the Men’s and Women’s Tug of War and Wahoo game matches.
The Women’s Bird Dancing and Men’s Bird Singing Group Contest will be held Saturday evening and the day’s events will conclude with the Youth, Women, and Men Peon Tournament at Spirit Runners Park at 9:00pm PT.
All the events will be held in the Fort Mojave California Village Park at 500 Merriman Avenue, except the Golf Tournament at 9905 Aha Macav Pkwy, Laughlin, Nevada.

Vendor costs are $75.00 for Arts and Crafts as well as $75.00 for Food. Food vendors may also choose to supply ten (10) $7.00 food vouchers, instead of the vendor fee, for use by organizers during the event.
Vendors are accepted on a “First Come, First Served Basis.”
