Needles, CA: Winners from the Needles Chamber of Commerce’s Awards and Dinner 2018.
Awards were headed out during the Needles Chamber of Commerce’s Awards and Dinner 2018 held on Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at the Rivers Edge Golf Course in Needles, California.

- Volunteer of the Year:
** Winner: Jose M. Garcia: **
George DeLeon presented the award to Jose M. Garcia.
Jose M. Garcia, who his friends known him as “Jo”, works hard and does so much throughout the community he loves, including giving out food to those in need at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop; volunteers to help setting up at community events; coach, scorekeeper and being the umpire at kids softball, baseball and flag football games at the Needles Recreation Center; and being a member of the chain crew during home games from the Needles Mustangs at Needles High School.
- Educator of the Year:
** Winner: Norma Bunton: **
Needles Unified School District Superintendent Mary McNeil, Ph.D. presented the award to Norma Bunton.
According to Superintendent Mary McNeil, Norma Bunton is the first school worker and bus driver that many students see in the morning and the last they see at night. Bunton spends quality volunteer time with students of all ages performing in the Blue Notes Jazz Band and the Needles High School Band. Bunton also works with children at Needles’ Assembly of God Church.
- Business of the Year:
** Winner: Deco Food Service: **
Needles Chamber of Commerce Director Eileen Hartwick presented the award to the DeAtley family with Deco Food Service.
According to Eileen Hartwick, the DeAtley family, owners of the multi-generational DECO Food Service. Since purchasing what was Needles Cold Storage back in 1975, DECO Food Service has grown to supply restaurants, casinos, grocery stores, schools and other venues throughout Needles, California and the Colorado River Tri-State area.
- Citizen of the Year:

Needles Chamber of Commerce President Mary Gonzales presented the award to the Jan Jernigan.
According to Needles Chamber President Mary Gonzales, “One can agree that with Jan’s passion, tenacity and exceptional leadership Needles is truly a better place.” from community events to meet and greets, Jan Jernigan has done many roles in the community over the last years.
