The confirmation process has been bitterly partisan, and disputes were exacerbated by allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh that began surfacing in September 2018.
In response to the allegations, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard testimony from Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, who alleges Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were in high school.
Kavanaugh denies the allegation, while Christine Blasey Ford has stood by her testimony.
The Senate Judiciary Committee then paused the nomination process for a week so the Federal Bureau of Investigation could investigate.
Afterwards, Republicans declared that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had not found any corroborating witnesses, while Democrats say the Federal Bureau of Investigation didn’t look hard or long enough.
I applaud and congratulate the U.S. Senate for confirming our GREAT NOMINEE, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, to the United States Supreme Court. Later today, I will sign his Commission of Appointment, and he will be officially sworn in. Very exciting!
