Las Vegas, NV: We Remember 1 October: Deadly Mass Shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival.

On Sunday, October 1st, 2017, a gunman opened fire onto a large crowd of people attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a music festival that was being held near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino along the Las Vegas Strip, in Las Vegas, Nevada, taking the lives of 58 people and many people were injured.

Monday, October 1st, 2018 will mark one year since the deadly mass shooting now known as “1 October”, and a sunrise remembrance ceremony is being held for the public at the Clark County Government Amphitheater, located at 500 South Grand Central Parkway in Las Vegas, Nevada, beginning at 6:30am PT.

Parking at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater will be free to the public attending the sunrise remembrance ceremony.

The sunrise remembrance ceremony will honor the 58 victims of the deadly mass shooting, and will include 58 seconds of silence, a multi-agency honor guard, music from The Academy Singers from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, and the release of 58 doves.

Speakers at the he sunrise remembrance ceremony include Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, Sheriff Joe Lombardo, Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak and Mynda Smith, the sister of Neysa Tonks, one of the 58 who died on 1 October.

The sunrise remembrance ceremony will be live streamed online beginning at 6:30am PT.

Those in attendance also may view the Las Vegas Portraits Project, an exhibit of portraits of the 58 victims who lost their lives in the attack, along with crosses that were erected at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign last year, and “The Art of Healing Mural” in the adjacent Rotunda Gallery.

  • A Memorial Blood Drive will take place from 7:00am to 7:00pm PT at Las Vegas Convention Center’s North Hall, located at 3150 Paradise Road, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Donors can wait in line or make an appointment at: https://www.bloodhero.com/ and use the code: “1October”.
  • The Stroll for Vegas Memorial Walk will begin at 9:30am PT at Sunset Park, located at 2601 East Sunset Road in Las Vegas, Nevada. There will be a short walk around Sunset Park pond. Children will also have a chance to create meaningful crafts which will be placed with the 68 trees at the Healing Garden. Participants are also encouraged to bring a rock painted with a positive message.
  • Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is hosting a Hope and Healing Service at 9:30am PT at St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility, located at 1502 N. Main Street in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • There will be a Remembrance Event at Las Vegas City Hall, located at 495 S Main Street in Las Vegas, Nevada, starting at 11:30am until 1:00pm PT. Pastor Troy Martinez will lead a prayer on the steps of city hall followed by live music, more prayers while honoring the Las Vegas community during the one year later event.
  • There will be a Remembrance Ceremony staring at 4:00pm PT at University of Nevada, Las Vegas’s Student Union, located at 4505 Maryland Parkway, in Paradise, Nevada. The remembrance ceremony is open to the public.
  • Reformation Lutheran Church is hosting a Prayer Vigil from 6:30pm to 8:00pm PT at 580 East St. Louis Avenue in Las Vegas, Nevada in remembrance of 1 October. As part of the remembrance, participants will walk to the new Las Vegas sign at Main Street and Las Vegas boulevard.
  • The City of Las Vegas and the Get Outdoors Nevada organization, the nonprofit partner that manages the garden, are hosting a Las Vegas Healing Garden New Remembrance Wall Dedication ceremony starting at 6:30pm PT at the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden, located at 1015 S. Casino Center Boulevard in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Canyon Ride Christian Church is hosting a 1 October Service at 6200 West Lone Mountain Road in Las Vegas, Nevada starting at 7:00pm PT.
