News Update!!: Mohave Valley, AZ: Preparing to demonstrate against the River Regatta event on Saturday.
The Fort Mojave Indian Tribe held a public meeting on Friday, August 10th, 2018 in Mohave Valley, Arizona to discuss a planned demonstration against on River Regatta event happening tomorrow morning.
Members of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe along with local and area residents along with residents attended the “No Regatta” meeting to get ready to show their opposition for the event because of the environment and pollution in the water left behind.
During the meeting, people spoke about how upset that the event is being held and that city officials voted to allow the event to return.
Some of the people in attendance talked about threats that have been made towards people against the event as well as signs that read “No Regatta” being damaged and vandalized on the California side of the Colorado River.
Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Chairman Tim Williams spoke during the meeting and let the people in attendance know what they can do to help make sure the Colorado River is protected and kept clean during and after the event.
After the “No Regatta” meeting, people in attendance were able to pick up shirts and signs that say, “No Regatta” for the planned peaceful demonstration.
The demonstration is scheduled to start at 5:30am MST on Saturday, August 11th, 2018 near the Laughlin Bridge on the corners of Bullhead City Parkway and Arizona State Route 95 in Bullhead City, Arizona.
The demonstration is to let out-of-towners know that the river should be respect.
Originally, there were plans to hold the demonstrations at 5 different locations, but that was later changed to this demonstration location.
People planning to attend the demonstration are being asked to be peaceful and dress comfortably for what the weather conditions will be.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, Nevada, the weather in Bullhead City, Arizona will be mostly sunny and hot, a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11:00am MST, with a high near 110*F and with south wind 6 to 11 mph.
There will be team leaders at the demonstration location along with signs, snacks and drinking water.
