New York City, NY: Iconic and beloved Nickelodeon game show ‘Double Dare’ returns with brand new episodes summer 2018.
The Nickelodeon network announced on Wednesday, April 25th, 2018 that the iconic and beloved Nickelodeon game show ‘Double Dare’ is returning summer 2018 with brand new episodes and will feature appearances from folks from the game show’s past, longtime fans and today’s hottest celebrities.
In a statement, the Nickelodeon network said, “With ‘Double Dare’ remaining an iconic touchstone for its original millennial audiences, the new version will feature the gameplay and challenges they remember, as well as appearances from blasts from the past and stars from today.”
The exact date for the summer 2018 return of the game show as well as the game show host of the reboot will be announce later.
On Monday, October 6th, 1986, Nickelodeon debuted the game show was hosted by Marc Summers and announcer John Harvey, simply known as Harvey.
The game show had 2 teams compete to win cash and prizes by answering trivia questions or completing messy stunts known as physical challenges, and the winning team race through the an obstacle course for the grand prize, with most of the obstacles covered in variety of messy substances including green slime, whipped cream, and chocolate syrup.
After debuting, Double Dare had more than tripled viewership for Nickelodeon’s afternoon lineup, becoming the most watched original daily program on cable television, and over the next few years, grow a large fan base following with many loving the game show’s cast and the messy games.
The populating of Double Dare lead to the creation of “Family Double Dare” and “Super Sloppy Double Dare.”
Nickelodeon continued Family Double Dare, premiering a new version on October 6, 1990. The original series ended on February 6, 1993.
Repeats of the original Double Dare continued to air on Nickelodeon until March 15, 1991, and returned to Nickelodeon’s schedule again from June 12 to September 30, 1994. Repeats of Family Double Dare remained on the Nickelodeon schedule until January 31, 1999
On Saturday, February 6th, 1993, the original series Double Dare came to an end on Nickelodeon leaving many fans both young and old deeply sad.
Repeats of the game show continued over the years growing more of a fan base following.
On Saturday, January 22nd, 2000, a later revival of the game show titled “Double Dare 2000” debuted on Nickelodeon and was hosted by Jason Harris, but the series concluded on Friday, November 10th, 2000.
Years later, die harder fans and new fans demanded the reboot of the popular messy game show, even using social media to grow the call for the reboot of Double Dare and bring back the original beloved host Marc Summers.
