A shooting and standoff on Friday, March 9th, 2018 inside a veterans home in Yountville, California left 3 people and the gunman dead.

Authorities say the hostages standoff occurred at the Veterans Home of California – Yountville shortly after 10:00am PT when a man, armed with a rifle, stormed into the veterans home where an employee going-away party in a building where combat veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan receive treatment and opened fired 3 people.
Armored vehicles, ambulances, and several fire department trucks responded to the facility, which houses about 1,000 residents.
Authorities closed off nearby roads, and began evacuating the property and surrounding properties, including golfers at the Vintners Golf Club.
Yountville Elementary School was placed on lockdown briefly well a group of around 80 students who were on the home’s grounds were safely evacuated after being locked down.
Authorities say the teens from Justin-Siena High School were at a theater rehearsing a play and were a distance away from the shooting situation.
Authorities say a shootout with the gunman occurred with law enforcement.
According to California Highway Patrol Assistant Chief Chris Childs, nearly 8 hours after the gunman slipped, the bodies of the 3 victims and the gunman were discovered.
Authorities say the gunman turned the gun on himself.

According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office, the 3 victims have been identified as 42 years old Jennifer Golick, Clinical Director, from St Helena; 48 year old Christine Loeber, Executive Director, from Napa; and 29 year old Jennifer Gonzalez, Clinical Psychologist.
The 3 victims were employees with the nonprofit organization Pathway Home treatment program that treats veterans for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (P.T.S.D.).
California Governor Jerry Brown and wife Anne offered their condolences to families and friends of the 3 women killed, saying that he and his wife were deeply saddened by the killing of 3 women dedicated to serving veterans.

The gunman was identified as 36 year old Albert Wong from Sacramento, California, a military veteran who was formerly was housed at the Pathway Home Program on the Veterans Home of California – Yountville campus.
According to California Highway Patrol Assistant Chief Chris Childs, investigators have not determined a motive and that, “It’s far too early to say if they were chosen at random.”
