News Update!!: Downtown Needles, CA: Pigeon poop build up, dust, and rain caused utility pole fire and power outage.

ZachNews has learn from from the City of Needles that pigeon poop build up, dust, and rain caused a utility pole fire and power outage just after 8:00pm PT on Tuesday, February 28th, 2018 along an alleyway next to the United States Postal Service in Downtown Needles, California.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels tells ZachNews that Jack Lindley, City Electric Supervisor, confirms drizzle rain caused the pole fire.

Generally, when we have light rains, it is normal that we have an occasional pole fire. It is caused by dust and pigeon poop build up and when moistened it causes an arc that causes the fire. When it rains hard it washes the dust and poop away and there is no problem,” said Needles City Manager Rick Daniels.

ZachNews photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez broadcast live from the scene of the utility pole fire and power outage after being alerted of the incident by ZachNews fan, Krikit Glass.

San Bernardino County Fire Department Station 32 along with utility crews from the City of Needles responded to the utility pole fire and power outage in the alleyway off D Street between West Broadway and Third Street in Downtown Needles, California.

The power outage affected residents in an area between West Broadway to the north, D Street to the west, Third Street to the south, and C Street to the east.

The flashing traffic signal at the intersection of West Broadway and D Street was also out.

Utility crews from the City of Needles worked into the night to make repairs on the utility pole and the power has since been restored to the affected area.
