Breaking News!!: Needles, CA: Suspect arrested after police pursuit in a stolen vehicle from Florida.
According to the California Highway Patrol, at approximately 7:20am PT on Tuesday, February 27th, 2018, Sergeant Adelmann of the California Highway Patrol Needles Area attempted to stop a suspected Driving Under the Influence (D.U.I.) driver on westbound Interstate 40 at East Broadway in Needles, California.
The driver exited East Broadway then accelerated to 75mph.
A pursuit ensued and traveled through most of Downtown Needles, California.
The driver eventually ditched his vehicle along the railroad tracks and fled on foot towards Fenders/Rainbow Beach.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station, Deputy Bevan responded to a report of a suspicious person attempting to open car doors in the 3300 block of Needles Highway in Needles, California.
Upon arrival, Deputy Bevan located the person, identified as 22 year old Anthony Martin from Lakeland, Florida, walking on Needles Highway and detained him.
During the investigation it was learned the California Highway Patrol was pursuing a reported stolen vehicle driven by Anthony Martin.
Anthony Martin abandon the vehicle in the area of Needles Hwy and fled on foot, when he was apprehended by Deputy Bevan.
Anthony Martin was turned over to the custody of the California Highway Patrol for their investigation and he was subsequently booked into the Colorado River Station Jail in Needles, California for vehicle theft and felony evading with bail set at $100,000.
The arrest was the result of great teamwork by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies and California Highway Patrol officers who removed a dangerous criminal from the streets.
Suspect was caught and the vehicle, a 2006 Jeep Cherokee, was determined to be stolen out of Florida.
