NBC affiliate WTVJ Channel 6 reports that authorities released a transcript of Nikolas Cruz’ statement to an investigator shortly after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Attorneys for the confessed killer, Nikolas Cruz, argued none of the material should be released. For two and half hours after the suspected shooter was detained, video recorders began rolling at the Broward Sheriff’s Office where Nikolas Cruz was taken. For 11 hours until the next morning, Cruz would confess his crimes, but also reveal much more — allegedly telling a detective that a demon in his head told him to burn, kill and destroy.

Broward Circuit Judge this week included a three page letter from Minnesotan into the court record of the case. The letter was addressed to Broward Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer and claimed that research into Nikolas Cruz’s past led the writer to believe that Nikolas Cruz suffered from a developmental disability and that he was “…fearful of other people and was threatened by bullies.” The letter ended by claiming that Nikolas Cruz appeared to be consumed by sadness and depression. This is part of a string of letters that have been sent to the judge, asking for her to show mercy or for God to forgive his actions against his victims. A court hearing was also held this week to determine if taxpayers will pay for Cruz’s defense.

The defense had earlier offered a guilty plea if the death penalty was taken off the table, and reiterated it immediately before it was refused.

More than 1,500 mourners thronged the church for the funeral of Alaina Petty.

Family, friends, and a community are also coming together to honor a student who’s being called a hero for helping students, teachers and staff during the deadly school shooting.

The student, 15 year old Peter Wang, stayed behind and held the door open so that students, teachers and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School could escape from the gunman.

Peter Wang died holding that door, wearing his Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (R.O.T.C.) uniform.

Family, friends, and neighbors described Peter Wang as a very polite and smart man who hoped one day to attend West Point Military Academy.

Lin Chen, Peter Wang’s cousin, told the Sun-Sentinel that she was not surprised to learn of his actions.

He is so brave. He is the person who is genuinely kind to everyone. He doesn’t care about popularity. He always liked to cheer people up. He is like the big brother everyone wished they had,” Lin Chen told the Sun-Sentinel.

The petition states, “Peter Wang, 15, was one of the students killed in Florida this past week. He was a Jrotc Cadet who was last seen, in uniform, holding doors open and thus allowing other students, teachers, and staff to flee to safety. Wang was killed in the process. His selfless and heroic actions have led to the survival of dozens in the area. Wang died a hero, and deserves to be treated as such, and deserves a full honors military burial.”

As families, friends, and community come together to remember the innocent victims of the deadly school shooting, the suspected shooter Nikolas Cruz was inside a crowded Broward County Courtroom on Monday for a status hearing as attorneys concerning the rules going forward of how documents would be sealed.

The 19 year old suspected shooter sat quietly for most of the 20 minutes he was inside, only saying a few words to his court appointed lawyers.

Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer said she was in favor of openness whenever possible.

A second hearing was scheduled for later Monday over the possible release of records from the Department of Children and Families.

The evidence against suspected shooter Nikolas Cruz is so overwhelming, the only question left for the courts if he is convicted is whether he will be sentenced to death or spend the rest of his life in prison.

The fate of suspected shooter Nikolas Cruz, who’s facing 17 counts of first-degree murder in the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last week, will depend on his mental state and the wishes of the victims’ families, which have a say in how the prosecution proceeds.

Broward County Public Defender Howard Finkelstein, whose office is representing Nikolas Cruz, said there were so many warning signs that Nikolas Cruz was mentally unstable and potentially violent that the death penalty might be going too far, and Nikolas Cruz would likely plead guilty if prosecutors opt not to seek the death penalty.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said Nikolas Cruz confessed, and they have his AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, ammunition clips and video from the school.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation also said it had gotten a call from someone close to Nikolas Cruz who expressed concern that he had “a desire to kill people” and “the potential” to conduct a school shooting.

On Sunday, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office visited 15 year old Anthony Borges, who’s recovering in the hospital after he was shot 5 times during the deadly shooting as he slammed the door of a classroom shut, protecting 20 of his classmates.

During a news conference moments ago, Broward County Sheriff’s Office Scott Israel said that the school resource officer never incounter the suspect on the day of the deadly shooting.

Broward County Sheriff’s Office Scott Israel addressed rumors that were circling online, that the suspect was found with a gas mask and gas grenades.

Broward County Sheriff’s Office Scott Israel said that there were “no gas mask and gas grenades” found on the suspect.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is saying that at lease 20 calls for services regarding Nikolas Cruz were made to authorities.

Broward County Sheriff’s Office Scott Israel also said that the son of a deputy who was injured has been release from the hospital today.

Meanwhile, Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie is telling the news media that the 3 story freshman school building, Building 12, where the deadly shooting occurred will be torn down.

Parents and students have resoundingly told me they can’t go back into that building regardless of what we do. The other piece I heard is that that building will be used as evidence in any type of legal process that goes forward, so we won’t be able to access the building for a while anyway,” said Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie.

Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie plans to request funding from Tallahassee to construct a new building somewhere else on the campus, and a memorial put in its place.

Florida legislators reportedly support Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie’s plan and say they will provide the resources to make it happen.

United States of America President Donald Trump said he will come to Florida on Friday, a trip he had scheduled to his home in Palm Beach, Florida prior to the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

United States of America President Donald Trump would visit Parkland, Florida and will meet with those involved in dealing with the shooting.

I will be leaving for Florida today to meet with some of the bravest people on earth — but people whose lives have been totally shattered. Am also working with Congress on many fronts,” tweeted United States of America President Donald Trump.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation received a tip last month that accused suspect Nikolas Cruz had a “desire to kill” and access to guns and could be plotting an attack, but agents failed to investigate.

A person who was close to Nikolas Cruz called the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s tip line on Friday, January 5th, 2018 and provided information about Nikolas Cruz’s weapons and his erratic behavior, including his disturbing social media posts.

The caller was concerned that Nikolas Cruz could attack a school.

In a statement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation acknowledged that the tip should have been shared with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Miami Office and investigated, but it wasn’t.

The startling admission from the Federal Bureau of Investigation come days after the Federal Bureau of Investigation was already facing criticism for its treatment of a tip about a YouTube comment posted last year.

The comment posted by a “Nikolas Cruz” said, “Im going to be a professional school shooter.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also notified about a comment on a YouTube video posted by a “Nikolas Cruz” last year.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the comment, but did not determine who made it.

United States Attorney General Jeff Session ordered a review on what happened in this case and the handling of the Federal Bureau of Investigation failed to follow up on those tips.

People are angry at the Federal Bureau of Investigation for dropping the ball in this case, failing to preventing another deadly shooting in America.

Florida Governor Rick Scott is calling for Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray to resign in wake of what happen in this case.

Seventeen innocent people are dead and acknowledging a mistake isn’t going to cut it. An apology will never bring these 17 Floridians back to life or comfort the families who are in pain,” said Florida Governor Rick Scott.

In a statement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said, “On January 5, 2018, a person close to Nikolas Cruz contacted the FBI’s Public Access Line (PAL) tipline to report concerns about him. The caller provided information about Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting. Under established protocols, the information provided by the caller should have been assessed as a potential threat to life. The information then should have been forwarded to the FBI Miami Field Office, where appropriate investigative steps would have been taken. We have determined that these protocols were not followed for the information received by the PAL on January 5. The information was not provided to the Miami Field Office, and no further investigation was conducted at that time.”

In another statement, Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray said, “We are still investigating the facts. I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened in this particular matter, as well as reviewing our processes for responding to information that we receive from the public. It’s up to all Americans to be vigilant, and when members of the public contact us with concerns, we must act properly and quickly. “We have spoken with victims and families, and deeply regret the additional pain this causes all those affected by this horrific tragedy. All of the men and women of the FBI are dedicated to keeping the American people safe, and are relentlessly committed to improving all that we do and how we do it.”

Meanwhile, the first funerals of the victims in the deadly school shooting began Friday.

About 400 people, including family, friends and the community, attended 14 year old Alyssa Alhadeff’s funeral and burial at Star of David Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Chapel in North Lauderdale.

Alyssa Alhadeff is being described by family and friends as a go-getter and a great soccer player.

Another funeral is scheduled on Friday for 18 year old Meadow Pollack.

The suspect in a deadly school shooting has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.

Authorities say that Nikolas Cruz reportedly left a comment on a YouTube video last year stating ‘I’m going to be a professional school shooter‘.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was warned in September about a possible school shooting threat from a YouTube user with the same name as the suspect.

The comment posted on YouTube has since been taken down.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent in charge of the Miami division, Robert Lasky, confirmed on Thursday that the bureau received a tip last year about the YouTube comment.

No other information was included with that comment which would indicate a time, location or the true identity of the person who made the comment. The FBI conducted database reviews, checks but was unable to further identify the person who actually made the comment,” said Robert Lasky.
