Needles, CA: Summary and voting results from the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee Meeting.

A Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee Meeting was held on Thursday, January 18th, 2018 inside the Needles City Council Chambers in Needles, California.

**** Unfinished Business: ****

  • Agenda Item A:

Review of revised Rules and Regulations relating to, among other matters, handling of flowers, flags and other items located on grave sites to allow for mowing of the cemetery grounds.

Agenda Item A was discretionary only and no votes was taken by members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee.

Members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee discussed the procedures handling of flowers, flags and other items located on grave sites when mowing of the cemetery grounds, and what happens to those items. 

 

  • Agenda Item B:

Status report on security of the Old Pioneer Cemetery and stabilization of the hillsides.

Agenda Item B was information only and no votes was taken by members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee.

Members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee discussed the best way to address fencing around the Old Pioneer Cemetery and lighting in the area for security. 

A suggestion was to install some kind of a street light that will be bright enough to light up the Old Pioneer Cemetery, but not too bright for the surrounding area. 

Members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee also discussed the best way to address the hillside stabilization.

Corners over off road vehicles riding along the hillside was raised and members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee discussed what can be done to prevent people from driving their off road vehicles along the hillside of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee so the hillside isn’t make worst.

  • Agenda Item A:

Selection of a chair and vice chair for the ensuing year of 2018.

Members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee unanimously voted to appoint Wilma Baldwin as Chairperson. 

Members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee unanimously voted to appoint Dan Pitts as Vice Chairperson. 

 

  • Agenda Item B:

Discussion regarding marking of gravesites for future interment.

Agenda Item B was discretionary only and no votes was taken by members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee.

 

  • Agenda Item C:

Elected and appointed officials ethics policy.

Agenda Item C was information only and no votes was taken by members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee.

 

**** Committee Requests: ****

  • Members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee:

Members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee learned about what is happening with the money that was donated to the cemetery to build a map of the cemetery with a roster of all the grave sites and location. 

Cheryl K. Sallis told members of the Needles Cemetery Advisory Committee that the money is there and they are working on getting that map started.
