Needles, CA: Deputies arrested the mother after finding the drunk driver got her vehicle stuck on railroad tracks with her 6 year old daughter and another passenger inside.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 5:20pm PT on Monday, December 18th, 2017, deputies of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station were dispatched to a welfare check reference a vehicle that was stuck on the eastbound set of the railroad tracks between Ice Plant Road and Five Mile Road in Needles, California.
Deputies arrived on scene and found a vehicle high centered on the tracks.
Deputies contacted the driver of the vehicle, identified as 43 year old Darby Chaney from Needles, California.
Darby Chaney immediately displayed signs and symptoms consistent with being under the influence of alcohol.
There were 2 other passengers in the vehicle, including Darby Chaney’s 6 year old daughter.
A train traveling west bound on a separate set of train tracks, passed the disabled vehicle while everybody was in the car.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe staff had to shut down all lanes of travel to ensure the safety of everybody on scene.
Darby Chaney was arrested for Child Endangerment and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Darby Chaney was transported to the Colorado River Station jail for booking.
Darby Chaney is being held on $100,000 to appear in the Victorville Superior Court.
The child was released into the custody of Children and Family Services.
