California: Funeral procession held for Cal Fire San Diego Unit Fire Apparatus Engineer Cory Iverson.
A funeral procession was held on Sunday, December 17th, 2017 for Cal Fire San Diego Unit Fire Apparatus Engineer Cory Iverson.
According to Ventura County Medical Examiner, 32 years old Cory Iverson died from smoke inhalation and burns sustained while battling the massive Thomas Fire in Ventura County, California at about 9:30am PT on Thursday, December 14th, 2017.
A funeral procession departed at 10:00am PT from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office in Ventura, California to a mortuary in San Diego, California.

The funeral procession went along eastbound U.S. 101 onto eastbound State Route 134.

Fire department trucks lining along the way with firefighters, police officers, and first responders paying respect and honor to fallen firefighter Cory Iverson.
Along the way, fire and emergency helicopters were spotted flying over the funeral procession.

The funeral procession then drove along eastbound Interstate 210, southbound State Route 71, and onto Edison Avenue and Central Avenue in Chino, California where the funeral procession firefighters from Chino Valley Fire District lined up and saluted firefighter Cory Iverson as the funeral procession drove by.

The funeral procession got back onto southbound State Route 71 to eastbound State Route 91 then onto southbound Interstate 15, and westbound Miramar Road to northbound Carroll Canyon Road then onto eastbound Fenton Road.

Thousands of people from firefighters, law enforcement, and first responders to citizens were seen lined along the multiple county funeral procession along the interstates, overpasses, and streets to pay respects and honor to fallen firefighter Cory Iverson.
“We were never alone for 203 miles today. For 203 miles not a single overpass did not have multiple fire engines standing in salute” Cal Fire Chief Tony Mecham told NBC affiliate KNSD Channel 7.
“We talk a lot with the cub scouts about heroes and so he’s a hero. I don’t know him, but it just gets to me because he’s a dad. He has a baby on the way and also a two year old so it just pulls on me so it just put a call to come and honor this gentleman,” Juan Hernandez, a scout leader told Fox affiliate KSWB Channel 5 well he stood on the overpass with his troop.

The funeral procession arrived at El Camino Memorial Park in Sorrento Valley, California at around 2:12pm PT.
Cory Iverson lived in Escondido, California, had been with Cal Fire since 2009, was an engineer for Cal Fire based in San Diego, California, and is survived by his 2 year old daughter and his wife, Ashley who is pregnant with a second child and is expected in May 2018.
“Today has been a day that I am struggling to find words to try and describe. Cory Iverson made a decision to seek a profession where he put others first and by doing that that comes at great consequence to his family,” Cal Fire Chief Tony Mecham told NBC affiliate KNSD Channel 7.
The casket of firefighter Cory Iverson will stay at the El Camino Memorial Park until his memorial service being held at 10:00am PT on Saturday, December 23rd, 2017 at The Rock Church on Rosecrans Street in Point Loma, California.
The Thomas Fire, which began on Monday, December 4th, 2017, has burned into Santa Barbara County, California burning 270,000 acres and is at 40 percent contained with full containment expected for Sunday, January 7th, 2018.
The Thomas Fire has destroyed at least 750 homes and continues to threatens 18,000 structures.
