Downtown Needles, CA: Palo Verde College celebrated 70 years of excellence.

Palo Verde College held an event celebrating 70 years of excellence on Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 inside the Palo Verde College’s Needles Education Center in Downtown Needles, California.

A short ceremony was held during the event which was broadcast live at ZachNews on Facebook.

Faculty and staff from Palo Verde College along with City of Needles officials attended the event, including Davis Maureen, Interim Vice President of Administrative Services; Cecilia “Cecy” Garcia, Chief Human Resources Officer; Dr. Sean Hancock, Vice President of Instruction and Student Services; Dr. George Thomas, President of the Board of Trustees; Ed Gonzales, Clerk Board of Trustees; Jerry Lewis, Trustee; Marcella Thomas and Louise Alford, Foundation Directors; Jeanie Johnson, Assistant at Palo Verde College Needles Center; Lale Cilenti-Arac, Dean at Palo Verde College Needles; Jeff Williams, Needles Vice Mayor; and Dr. Robert Richardson, Needles City Council Member.

Needles Vice Mayor Jeff Williams presented a proclamation to the Palo Verde College for their commitment to excellence and encouraging students success in the educational path chosen, and declare that day, “Palo Verde College Day” in the City of Needles.

The Palo Verde College opened on the banks of the Colorado River in the agriculturally fertile Palo Verde Valley in 1947 with just 17 students.

Over the years, the Palo Verde College grew and in 2001 moved to its new 200 acre campus on the mesa overlooking Blythe, California.

In 1999, the Palo Verde Community College District expanded to include Needles, California and the eastern part of San Bernardino County, California.

The Palo Verde College Needles Center occupies the historic Claypool Building in Downtown Needles, California which was renovated over a 5 year period and restored to its classic architectural features inside and out.

The newly renovated Needles Center opened its doors on June 18, 2009 and is now home to a 21st century learning environment outfitted with cutting edge technology throughout.

On Thursday, June 18th, 2009, the Palo Verde College Needles Center opened at 725 West Broadway in Downtown Needles, California, bring a 21st century learning environment to a community ready to grow and help them on their path to success.

Special thanks were giving to all of the faculty and staff at Palo Verde College and Palo Verde College Needles Center for their work in helping students success.

After the short ceremony, everybody got to enjoy some free appetizers and tea from the new Giggling Cactus in Needles, California as well as a big slice of celebration cake.
