News Update!!: Riverside, CA: Hostage situation at Castle View Elementary School ends.
A hostage situation has ended at Castle View Elementary School, located at 6201 Shaker Drive, in Riverside, California after a person held a teacher hostage inside a classroom for more than 6 hours on Tuesday, October 31st, 2017.
The incident was reported at 11:15am PT when a person forced his way into the front office, the main entry into the elementary school.
The parent apparently assaulted a staff member and then barricaded himself in a classroom with a female teacher holding her hostage.
All of the students and staff members were safely evacuated from the school.
At around 5:50pm PT, SWAT team made entry to the classroom using flash-bang grenades.
Just before 6:00pm PT, the suspect in the hostage situation was seen wheeled out on a stretcher of the building quickly.
At least 2 ambulances were seen leaving the school after the incident.
According to the Riverside Police Department, the suspect later died at a local hospital and is identified as 27 year old Luvelle Kennon from Riverside, California.
The hostage, a teacher, had only minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
No additional injuries were reported in the hostage situation.
