California Department of Transportation crews are working to clean up debris following a semi truck fire along eastbound Interstate 40, near Kelbaker Road, in Essex, California.

The semi truck carrying vehicles caught on fire and was reported at around 4:45am PT.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fire appears to have came from the tires of the semi truck that was carrying 8 vehicles.

The fire engulfed the semi truck as well as the 5 vehicles on the semi truck were burned.

Some near by grass along the interstate also caught on fire from the semi truck fire.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the #2 lane of eastbound Interstate 40 remains closed.
