Breaking News!!: Needles, CA: Semi trucks on fire along westbound Interstate 40.

Several semi trucks have crashed along westbound Interstate 40 near the Needles Agriculture Inspection Station, just east of Five Mile Road, in Needles, California.

The crash and fire started at around 1:11pm PT on Saturday, August 19th, 2017.

According to California Highway Patrol, at least 3 semi trucks are involved in the crash with a semi truck in the center divider and at least 2 semi truck fully engulfed in flames.

Multiple fire department agencies from around the Colorado River Tri-States area responded to battling the fire, including San Bernardino County Fire Department, Mohave Valley Fire Department, Yucca Fire District, Desert Hills Fire District, Golden Shores Fire Department, and Bullhead City Fire Department.

The 2 semi trucks were carrying tire shavings and clothing, and because of the fire, prompted the need for a hazmat team to respond.

Firefighters were still in a “defensive attack mode”, fighting the fire and its dark, toxic smoke from a distance.

A firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene and taken to an area hospital.

Heavy traffic reported and traffic in both directions along Interstate 40 are closed from Five Mile Road to Park Moabi Road.

Motorists are being asked to use old Route 66 to County Route 1 in Topock, Arizona to Courtwright Road to Mohave Valley Highway in Mohave Valley, Arizona, over the Needles Bridge onto North K Street to Needles Highway to Interstate 40 in Needles, California.
