An extensive search had been conducted for 31 year old Jennifer Renee Martin from Los Angeles, California, utilizing sonar equipment and divers from Mohave County Sheriff’s Office since the boater went missing from the boating accident on Saturday, June 10th, 2017.

Tuesday morning, waterway deputies returned to the area to continue their search.

A target was located utilizing a side-scan sonar device and confirmed with a remote operated submarine and an onboard camera that the target was a body.

Approximately 8:00pm PT on Saturday, June 10th, 2017, Mohave County Sheriff’s Waterways deputies responded to a single boat accident on Lake Havasu.

Several 911 calls were received by the Lake Havasu City Dispatch in reference to a boat crash that had occurred on Lake Havasu.

The reporting parties advised that a boat had flipped and there were several people in the water.

They further advised that a Good Samaritan boat that was in the area had picked several of the subjects up out of the water, one of which was unconscious and unresponsive.

The Good Samaritans began C.P.R. on the unresponsive male. As the subjects were being removed from the water by the Good Samaritans, the boat that was involved in the crash was circling the scene at a high speed, unmanned.

The Good Samaritans transported all the subjects to the London Bridge Beach where they were met by members of the Lake Havasu City Fire Department and the Lake Havasu City Police Department.

C.P.R. was taken over by public safety officials, who later transported the male subject to Havasu Regional Medical center where he was pronounced deceased.

The deceased subject is identified as 51 year old Bruce Buchanan, 51 from Redondo Beach, California.

It was also determined that a female passenger who was on the boat was missing, and last seen in the water by the Good Samaritans.

A search of the waterways and shorelines was immediately conducted by marine units from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Lake Havasu City Police Department, and the Lake Havasu City Fire Department, along with a helicopter from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, with negative results.

During the search, the vessel involved, a 2010 35 foot Nordic twin motor boat was located on the beach near Spectator Point.

The boat had clearly ran onto shore at a high rate of speed. A subject who was in the area saw the boat run into shore, but did not see anyone around the boat.

Search efforts continued for the female passenger until approximately 3:00am PT on Sunday, June 11th, 2017, when the search was suspended until daylight.

Deputies spoke with several witnesses who advised that the boat was traveling north in the South Basin of Lake Havasu near Body Beach when it made a hard left turn, causing the boat to lose control, and eject all of its occupants into the water.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety actively searched for the missing female utilizing side scan sonar technology, a remote operate submarine, and dive team members.

At about 7:15am PT, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office divers with the assistance of the Lake Havasu City Police Department dive team recovered the body.

The body was identified as Jennifer Renee Martin and was located in 43 feet of water within the search parameter of a mile radius of where the accident occurred in the South Basin of Lake Havasu, Arizona.

No signs of obvious trauma, and an autopsy is pending and this investigation remains active.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, alcohol appears to be a factor, and the operator, who was uninjured, is cooperating in the investigation.
