An explosion has occurred on Monday, April 3rd, 2017 inside the Saint Petersburg Metro in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The explosion occurred at around 2:40pm Local Time (4:30am PT) aboard a Saint Petersburg Metro subway train, while inside a subway tunnel, between the Sennaya Ploschad subway station and the Tekhnologichesky Institute subway station.

According to Andrei Przhezdomsky, head of the committee’s information center, a second explosive device was found at another station, but it did not detonate,
Authorities were able to diffuse the second explosive device before that device went off.
According to Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova said in a live interview with Russia 24 television, the death toll had risen to 11, with 2 succumbing to their wounds in the hospital and another 39 remained hospitalized.
The explosion happened while Russian President Vladimir Putin was also in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin telling Russian media that “all possible causes of the blast in the St Petersburg metro are being considered, including terrorism.”
Russia’s F.S.B. intelligence agency is reportedly investigating the explosion.
Nikki Haley, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, called the attack “heartbreaking” and offered condolences to the victims and their families.
All subway stations in Saint Petersburg, Russia were closed for several hours while authorities checked the system for other threats.
As of Monday night, all other subway stations have been reopened after clearing the other subway stations and tighter security have been added.
