Traffic Alert!!: Topock, AZ: Oatman Highway will be closed for 96 hour starting Monday for Sacramento Wash Bridge construction.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration and the Arizona Department of Transportation, crews are preparing to construct a Prefabricated Bridge Element (P.B.E.) on Oatman Highway, also known as Route 66, over the Sacramento Wash in Topock, Arizona.
During bridge installation, a 96 hour full road closure will be in effect on Interstate 40 at Exit 1 from 12:01am MST on Monday, March 13th, 2017 through 12:01am MST on Thursday, March 16th, 2017.
Motorists will be detoured 24 miles through Needles, California and detour signs will be clearly marked.
Motorists should be aware that the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector (also known as “Needles Jam”) construction project is underway and West Broadway Closure, between J Street and L Street, in Downtown Needles, California is closed.
** Motorists who use West Broadway in Downtown Needles, California to get to Arizona Highway 95 should use the following detours: **
- Driving along westbound Interstate 40, do not exit at J Street and instead, exit at West Broadway / Needles Highway (Exit #141); make a right turn onto Needles Highway; stay on eastbound Needles Highway to North K Street; and make a left turn onto North K Street to reach the Needles Bridge and access to Mohave Valley, Arizona.
- Driving southbound along Mohave Valley Highway (Arizona Highway 95), keep going south, cross over the Needles Bridge and make a right turn off North K Street onto Needles Highway; stay on westbound until you pass Wagon Wheel Restaurant; and make a right turn onto eastbound Interstate 40 to get by the closures on West Broadway and J Street.
Mohave County received a $1 million Federal Highway Administration (F.H.W.A.) Accelerated Innovation Deployment Discretionary Grant toward the $1.8 million project.
The bridge will provide an approximate 110-foot clear span that will pass the two-year, 30-minute storm event.
Arizona Department of Transportation works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions and closures, but it’s possible that unscheduled impacts might occur because of weather or other factors.
