The issue of California wanting to becoming a “Sanctuary State” and seceding from the United States of America was brought forward by local resident Ms. Suzanne Sheppard during the Needles City Council and Needles Public Utility Authority Meeting held on Tuesday, February 28th, 2017.
Along with the unanimously vote, a letter from the City of Needles was sent out to County and State Officials stating what their stand on this matter is as well as sending the letter written by Ms. Suzanne Sheppard that talks about California’s Sanctuary State and Secession.
Ms. Suzanne Sheppard spoke to members of the Needles City Council before members of the Needle City Council cast their vote.
“I’ll begin on a personal note. I was born 3 months after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. My first memory of World War 2 was a happy one, because at night my parents often took my brother and me outside to gaze and wonder at the Milky Way. You can easily see the glowing mass of stars because the streetlights were not turned on and all homes had blackout curtains so that no light can make us easy targets for the enemy ships lurking along the west coast. It was a time when Americans did whatever possible to protect ourselves and our freedoms from harm and preserve our country. But when the war ended and we were free to live normal lives again, the silent majority went silent then gradually, a few Gremlins started to chirp. Over the decades, those little chirps have become an oppressive, ear springing, daily demand that we – the silent ones – abandoned the very idea our American heritage. A just and civil society that honors our human dignity as free individuals – equal under the law. So I’d asked a question, if California becomes a sanctuary state or secede from the union, will it happen because the silent majority remain silent? The answer I believe is ‘Yes’. By adopting the resolution, you can break the deafening silent in California before it’s too late. Using the voice of reason to resist 2 very real and immediate threats to our way of life as Americans. If your voice falls on deaf ears or doesn’t carrying pass… you’re taking a stand will still matter. You would have kept defend. Maybe that’s all you can do, but it’s enough. Thank you Mrs Mayor,” said Ms. Suzanne Sheppard.
As Ms. Suzanne Sheppard walked away, a round of applause broke out from attendees and members of the Needle City Council.

The “Yes California Independence Campaign” is an American political action Committee that promotes the secession of the State of California from the United States. The organization is promoting a proposed initiative to be placed on the 2018 California state ballot, which, if passed, will then require an independence vote of all the members of the electorate to be held in March 2019 on the question of California’s independence. It would require an amendment to the United States Constitution.
California Senate Democrats recently moved to become the first “Sanctuary State,” advancing bills that would create a statewide sanctuary for illegal immigrants, provide money to pay lawyers for immigrants facing deportation and hamper any attempts by the Trump administration to Create a Muslim registry.
