San Bernardino, CA: Fire at a convalescent home.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, just before 8:30am PT on Thursday, July 21st, 2016, San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a combination smoke and water flow alarm at a convalescent home in the 300 block of East Gilbert Street in San Bernardino, California.
First arriving units described smoke coming from an upper floor window of a four story commercial building.
Due to the size and occupancy type, a second alarm was requested.
Firefighters ascended to the second story and discovered smoke throughout the floor.
Further investigation revealed a fire in a single apartment on the second floor.
Personnel assigned to the attack group quickly knocked down the fire while additional companies evacuated residents from the second, third, and fourth floors of the building.
At least 2 residents from the building were treated and transported for smoke inhalation.
The total number of displaced residents is still being compiled.
The progression of the fire was slowed by the building’s sprinkler system with two sprinklers activated.
At the time of this release, firefighters remain on scene conducting salvage and overhaul operations.
A significant amount of water from the sprinkler system has affected the first and second floors.
Assets assigned to the fire include 7 engines, 3 truck companies, a medic squad, and 4 chief officers for 36 personnel.
