Victorville, CA: Firefighters put out wind driven vegetation fire.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, shortly after 3:45pm PT on Thursday, June 30th, 2016, firefighters were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire on the Palmdale Road on ramp to the northbound Interstate 15 in Victorville, California.
Crews arrived within 4 minutes to find a large spot of vegetation involved moving at a rapid rate in medium fuels driven by strong winds.
Crews requested a 2nd Alarm bringing additional San Bernardino County Fire Department resources from the region to the fire including 2 San Bernardino County Fire All Risk hand crews.
Firefighters engaged in an aggressive attack protecting multiple commercial buildings from the vegetation fire.
Due to the close proximity to the Interstate 15, several lanes were closed to protect motorists.
The vegetation fire was contained to 4 acres with no damage reported to any of the threatened structures or roadways.
No injuries were reported to civilians or fire personnel.
A total of 65 San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel were assigned to the vegetation fire.
Several fire Investigators are working to determine the vegetation fire’s cause and origin.
