Needles, CA: Marine Enforcement Operation for Memorial Day 2016.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit conducted it’s 2016 Memorial Day Weekend Operation, starting on Friday, May 27th, 2016 through Monday, May 30th, 2016.
The operation was conducted along the Colorado River from the California/Nevada state line to the Riverside County line.
The majority of the operation was focused on the waterways along with resorts, launch ramps and marinas along the river and lake.
A total of 10 patrol vessels, a Rescue Dive Team, 2 Gang Enforcement Teams, an O.H.V. team, and a Sheriff’s Department helicopter team were deployed throughout the area.
There was a total of 15 arrests made; 3 of which were for Boating Under the Influence.
At least 47 citations were issued for various boating law violations.
The majority of the citations written involved operators not having children under the age of 13 years old in personal floatation devices (P.F.D.) while riding in vessels.
All children under the age of 13 years old must wear an approved personal floatation device while on a vessel underway.
The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit is dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and urges everyone to boat sober and wear their life jackets.
