Breaking News!!: Kumamoto, Japan: Magnitude 7.0 earthquake hits a day after magnitude 6.2 earthquake.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake has hit Kumamoto, Japan just a day after a magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit.

The magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck at around 1:25am local time on Saturday, April 16th, 2016 (9:25am PT on Friday, April 15th, 2016) and the earthquake was at a depth of about 6 miles.

At this moment, at least 7 people were killed in the latest earthquake.

Authorities are saying that hundreds of calls had come in from residents reporting people trapped inside houses and buildings.

According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, at least 66 people were trapped inside a nursing home in Mashiki, Japan and rescue efforts were underway.

NHK News is reporting that hundreds of people have been treated at hospitals, but most of their injuries were not life-threatening.

A tsunami warning was issued but, not expected for California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska or British Columbia.

The magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred about 7 miles from magnitude 6.2 earthquake that struck at 9:26pm local time on Friday, April 15th, 2016 on (5:26 a.m. PT on Thursday, April 14th, 2016) which killed at least 9 people, injured nearly 800 people, and caused structural damage, including at least 19 houses collapsed.

According to United States Geological Survey’s Dr. Lucy Jones, magnitude 6.2 earthquake was a foreshock and the magnitude 7.0 earthquake is considered more than 6 times bigger than a 6.2 on a seismogram, but feels nearly 16 times stronger.
