Traffic Update!!: Corona, CA: Both directions of the 91 Freeway is reopened.
According to the Riverside County Transportation Commission, both directions of the 91 Freeway, from the 71 Expressway to Interstate 15, is reopened in Corona, California on Monday, February 22nd, 2016.
Just before 1:30am PT, all westbound lanes of 91 Freeway was reopened and at 3:30am PT, all eastbound lanes of 91 Freeway was reopened ending what was being called, “91 Steer Clear”, “CoronaJam”, and “Coronageddon”.
The Riverside County Transportation Commission closed both directions of the 91 Freeway for 55 hours starting at 9:00pm PT on Friday, February 19th, 2016 to do accommodate work on a freeway expansion project with crews demolishing the west side of the Maple Street Bridge, installing support beams for a new flyover ramp bridge, and pave a portion of the eastbound 91 Freeway under Interstate 15.
During the closure, all westbound 91 Freeway traffic was detoured onto Interstate 15, and all eastbound 91 Freeway traffic was detoured onto 71 Expressway.
According to Riverside County Transportation Commission Executive Director Anne Mayer, by fully closing the 91 Freeway, we will be able to consolidate these significant construction efforts into one weekend, rather than multiple weekends or extending this over a month of weeknights.
