News Alert!!: Needles, CA: Federal civil rights lawsuit filed on the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly violating civil rights and injuring a long distance runner.

A federal civil rights lawsuit has been filed at the United States District Court in Riverside, California on Thursday, February 11th, 2016 alleging that the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department allegedly violating civil rights and injuring a long distance runner in February 2014 in Needles, California.

The Press Enterprise broke the news story of this federal civil rights lawsuit on Tuesday, February 16th, 2016.

According to the Press Enterprise, the federal lawsuit states that Trevor R. Arthur, a runner with the Fort Mojave Tribe’s Spirit Runners, was hit by the patrol car bumper in the right leg, tossed into a fence and tackled by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputies who put him in a choke hold, and treated him roughly at the jail.

Trevor R. Arthur was arrested by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputies on Monday, February 24th, 2014 and was at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station in Needles, California for about 3 hours before being released.

Trevor R. Arthur’s mother took Trevor R. Arthur to a hospital to get medical treatment from his injuries.

According to the Press Enterprise, the lawsuit states San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputies continue to harass, follow him and intimidate him while he is running around Needles, California and at a local high school.

According to the Press Enterprise, the federal lawsuit names as defendants San Bernardino County and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s administrators, the City of Needles, and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Deputies Pat McMullen and C. McCarthy.

The City of Needles contracts with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services in and around the Needles, California area.
