News Update!!: Needles, CA: Latest information on closures, projects, and new businesses.

ZachNews has received the latest information from the City of Needles on the status of closures, projects, and new businesses interested in Needles, California.

** As of Friday, January 29th, 2016: **

– Camdan Recycling Closue:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Met with waste collection company/recycler about their interest in providing a buy back center. Awaiting response.”

– Taco Bell Closure:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Discussed reuse potential and development potential of adjoining land with land owner.”

– Amtrak Train Station:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “The City has selected a contractor to install timed locks that will open the building at night prior to the scheduled train arrival and locket a preset time when the train normally departs. Expectation is that this will be completed within 3 weeks and the Amtrak can operate their shortly thereafter.”

– New Dollar General:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “All plans have been submitted and approved, but for the final Fire Marshal permit. Expectation is the issuance of a building permit by next week and construction shortly thereafter.”

The new Dollar General store is to be build on top of a hill near the intersection of J Street and Hospitality Lane.

– New Hotel:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Developer is in final negotiations for the land purchase. Could become active by the end of the year.”

The new hotel is to be build on Needles Highway just near the Westside Chevron Gas Station.

– Solar Farm Project:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Feasibility is underway. Expectation is a recommendation on progressing the project within 90 days.”

– California Air Resources Board Pilot Project for a “Bump Station”:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Grant application submitted. Awaiting further discussions.”

– New Wal-Mart:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Met with company representatives regarding a Neighborhood Market. Awaiting response.”

– New Aldi Grocery:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Met unsuccessfully, but will reconsider in upcoming rounds of new store openings.”

– New Smart & Final:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Made contact, but they declined due to population size.”

– New Wendy’s:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Made contact. Awaiting response.”

– New Movie Theater:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Assisted in contacting a potential location.”

– New Meat Market:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Contacted owner who expressed serious intent. Facilitating discussion with real estate options for a store front.”

– Federal Promise Zone:

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “Moving forward with a coalition of San Bernardino cities to create a zone. If selected the zone is provided grant writing services to search and prepare grant requests for job generating, economic development projects.”

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels tells ZachNews that all but the last three were reported by Needles Vice Mayor Jeff Williams at a recent Needles City Council Meeting and I reported on the others at previous Needles City Council Meeting.

ZachNews will be monitoring all of these projects, possible new businesses, and closures happening in Needles, California and will have updates as soon as new information and details come in.
