A traffic collision with injuries and a vehicle hanging off a bridge has been reported on National Trails Highway, east of Goffs Road, in Essex, California at around 1:37pm PT on Saturday, January 9th, 2016.
Reports over the police scanner is that the driver may have went through a road barricade and is hanging 8 feet off a bridge that was under construction over a wash.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the driver looked down at his phone just before he hit the “K-rail” that was blocking the washed out bridge.
A California Highway Patrol Deputy was unable to check the vehicle as the vehicle is “suspended in the air”, but could see that the air bag was deployed.
San Bernardino County Fire Department and Baker Emergency Medical Service is at the traffic collision.
Reports over the police scanner is that the male driver is in vehicle.
Active Towing assisted in securing the vehicle as emergency crews spoke to the driver asking him to remain calm.
Emergency crews were able to stabilize the vehicle allowing them to gain entry and assess the victim.
A medical helicopter has lifted off with the patient from the traffic collision along National Trails Highway.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, it was determined that the man’s injuries required transport to a “Trauma Center” and so the victim was subsequently transported to a hospital in the Las Vegas, Nevada area by air.
