Breaking News!!: Flagstaff, AZ: Deadly Shooting at Northern Arizona University.

A person is dead and 3 people are wounded after a shooting on the campus of Northern Arizona University at 1:20am MST on Friday, October 9th, 2015 in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Authorities responded to a call of shots fired in the area outside of Mountain View Hall on the northeast end of campus.

The wounded were taken to Flagstaff Medical Center.

The suspected shooter is in police custody by authorities at Northern Arizona University.

According to Northern Arizona University Officials, 18 year old Steven Jones is named as the suspected shooter which happened after a fight.

Authorities say Steven Jones believed to live on campus.

Northern Arizona University Officials are also saying that there was a confrontation between 2 groups of students, and the shooter opened fire on campus.

Authorities say that members of the Delta Chi fraternity were involved in the incident.

The Delta Chi fraternity released this statement saying, “Delta Chi Fraternity was made aware of a shooting that took place early Friday morning allegedly involving some of our members. We have investigated this matter and can confirm that there were members involved. We do not have any information on the victims nor do we know if the deceased individual is a member of the Fraternity. At this time, we can confirm that this incident had no ties to the chapter. Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the victims as well as the entire community in Flagstaff.”

Authorities say the situation is stabilized and the campus is not on lockdown.

Northern Arizona University Officials say that the deceased victim is believed to be a freshman.


Arizona Governor Doug Ducey responded to the deadly shooting at Northern Arizona University tweeting, “Praying for @NAU and the victims of this morning’s shooting. All Arizonans have the #Flagstaff community in their hearts today.”

United States Senator John McCain released the following statement on the deadly shooting at Northern Arizona University saying, “My thoughts and prayers are with families of the person who was killed and the three others who were wounded in the horrific shooting on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff early this morning. I appreciate the efforts of all state and local law enforcement officials, first-responders and school administrators, and continue to pray for the recovery of the injured, as well as all those in the NAU community who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy.”

This deadly shooting comes 8 days after a deadly shooting on the campus of Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.
