According to the City of Needles, the National Day of the Republic of China ceremony has been on going in our community for over 40 years and commemorates the Wuch’ang Uprising of 1911.

Around 100 people each year attend this event which was organized in 1973 by Bruce Weekley and Wing Yee.

As a result of the uprising the Ch’ing Dynasty was replaced; the Republic of China was founded on Monday, January 1st, 1912.

During the long-running Chinese Civil War which began in 1927, the nationalist government of the Republic of China relocated to the island of Taiwan in 1949 while the communist government of the People’s Republic of China assumed control of the mainland.
