– The Tsunami Advisory along the coastline of California, from San Onofre State Beach in San Clemente, California to Ragged Point, California, is expected to be lifted around 12:00pm PT on Thursday, September 17th, 2015.

The first waves hit California beaches around 5:00am PT at low tide and high tide is expected to hit shortly before 12:00pm PT and may reach a foot higher than average; may be as big as three feet or more.

According to the Orange County Emergency Operations Center, all Orange County, California beaches, harbors, and marinas that were shut down, but reopened by 6:00am PT.

No evacuations have been ordered, but the Orange County Sheriff’s Department was warning the public to stay out of the water.

All Los Angeles County, California beaches were also open, However, officials still warned swimmers and boaters that the stronger currents and waves could be dangerous.

The dangerous conditions also prompted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to issue a similar advisory of warning the public to stay out of the water.

While no significant coastal flooding was expected, the National Tsunami Warning Center warned that potential impacts for areas under the tsunami advisory may include strong current or waves that could be dangerous to those in or very near the water.

Additionally, currents could be hazardous to swimmers, boaters and coastal structures hours after the tsunami arrived.

The forecast peak wave heights for the coastline range from 0.4 to 1.0 feet. The forecast max tsunami height is the highest expected water level above the tide level. Widespread inundation is not expected, but strong currents and surges are expected throughout the area. Especially strong surges and currents may occur around the time of high tide. The high tides will occur around noon on Thursday. Harbors and marinas will be especially dangerous throughout this event. In addition, there will be a high rip current risk. According to the Orange County Emergency Operations Center (E.O.C.), all Orange County beaches, piers, and harbors will be closed at 4:00am PT and Dana Point Harbor closed at 2:00am PT on Thursday, September 17th, 2015, but no evacuation orders have been issued.

The Orange County Emergency Operations Center (E.O.C.) Public Information Hotline has been open for calls about tsunami at: 1 (714) 628-7085.

The Tsunami Advisory has prompted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to shut down all beaches, marinas, and harbors as a precaution.

In San Luis Obispo County, California, all beaches on Vandenberg Air Force Base, California’s coastline are closed until further notice, and Vandenberg Air Force Base Personnel were advised to avoid near by beaches and shorelines in the Vandenberg Air Force Base, California area.

The beaches affected in the Vandenberg Air Force Base, California area includes Surf, Minuteman, Wall, and Brown Beach near Point Sal State Beach.

For Los Angeles County, California and Ventura County, California, no closures were ordered at this moment, but authorities urged residents to use caution.

Office of Emergency Management Officials in Los Angeles County, California say that they were monitoring the situation in coordination with California State Emergency Officials.

As for San Diego County, California, waves are forecast to be from 4 to 8 inches, which was not enough to place the county under the Tsunami Advisory.

– A powerful magnitude 8.3 earthquake has shook Santiago, Chile at around 3:54 p.m. PT on Wednesday, September 16th, 2015.

The earthquake has caused buildings to sway and people to take refuge in the streets.

Several strong aftershocks hit within minutes as tsunami alarms sounded in the nearby port of Valparaiso, Chile.

Reports of any damages, injuries, and deaths are slowly coming in as communications were disrupted.

Emergency Officials in Hawaii are saying that a major tsunami not expected to hit Hawaii in the morning of Thursday, September 17th, 2015.

The United States Geological Survey initially reported the quake at a preliminary magnitude 7.9, but quickly revised the reading upward to magnitude 8.3.

United States Officials said the earthquake struck just offshore in the Pacific Ocean at 7:54pm PT and was centered about 141 miles (228 kilometers) north-northwest of Santiago, Chile.
