News Update!!: Cleveland, MS: Latest information on deadly shooting at Delta State University.

** As of 8:00am PT on Tuesday, September 15th, 2015: **

– According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Shannon Lamb, the suspect in the deadly shooting at Delta State University, is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Greenville Police Department spotted his black Dodge Avenger on Mississippi Highway 1, and gave chase.

Shannon Lamb eventually stopped, bailed out of the car, and ran into the woods.

Shannon Lamb apparently shot himself while officers were giving chase.

– Authorities are searching for 45 year old Shannon Lamb as a “Person of Interest” in the murder of a professor at Delta State University as well as the murder of a woman in Gautier, Mississippi this morning.

The Shannon Lamb is possibly driving a black Dodge Avenger with a Stone County tag number “STF015”.

– The following was posted by Delta State University (Delta State) and reads, “Chief Buster Bingham, Cleveland Police Department, said DSU police were contacted this morning about a shooting in Jobe Hall. The victim has been identified as Professor Ethan Schmidt, and a suspect is on the large. The suspect is not being named at this time. All official information is being released from the law enforcement command center every hour. The command center is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Highway 8. University Relations Vice President Michelle Roberts said it is a tragic situation, and the entire campus sends its heartfelt thoughts and sympathy to Professor Schmidt’s family. All classes have been cancelled for the remainder of the day and night, along with plans to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the campus set for Tuesday. All faculty, staff and students who have been cleared from academic buildings are being moved to Sillers Coliseum. Students currently in residence halls should remain there. Campus administrators are working to get food, water and counselors to the Coliseum. Police are working to clear all campus buildings, and students, faculty and staff should stay where they are until they are escorted out. – According to Mississippi Highway Patrol, another professor is a person of interest in the shooting death of a history professor at Delta State University.

The professor is being called a “Person of Interest” has been identified as 45 year old Dr. Shannon Lamb, and is also the suspect in the murder of a woman in Gautier, Mississippi this morning.

Shannon Lamb is a Geography teacher at the university, joined Delta State in 2009, and just recently received his doctorate in 2014.

ABC affiliate WLOX Channel 13 is reporting that Gautier Police Department believe a man accused of killing a woman on Santa Cruz Street could be linked to an active shooter situation on the campus of Delta State University.

According to Gautier Police Department Spokesman Caption Jerry Cooksey, the suspect has been identified as 45 year old Shannon Lamb.

According to the Delta State University website, Shannon Lamb is a social science professor at the university.

Authorities are saying that Shannon Lamb was last seen driving a green S.U.V.

According to Gautier Police Department Spokesman Caption Jerry Cooksey, detectives believe Shannon Lamb shot and killed a woman he was romantically involved with at a home on Santa Cruz Street.

Gautier Police Department Spokesman Caption Jerry Cooksey said that Shannon Lamb called Authorities around 10:20am CT on Monday, September 14th, 2015 and reported the murder.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

– According to Bolivar County Coroner Murray Roark, the professor at Delta State University who was shot and killed has been identified as Ethan A. Schmidt.

Bolivar County Coroner Murray Roark confirmed the professor’s identified in this morning’s shooting at Delta State University.

According to Delta State University’s website, Ethan A. Schmidt was an Assistant Professor of American History, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Kansas in 2007.

Before coming to Delta State, Ethan A. Schmidt taught for 6 years at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

Authorities are saying that the shooting took place at around 10:45am CT on Monday, September 14th, 2015.

According to Delta State University, the campus remains under lockdown and the shooter is still at large.
