News Alert!!: Fontana, CA: Armed suspect arrested in shooting of a California Highway Patrol Officer.

An armed suspect was arrested in Fontana, California after exchanging gunfire with California Highway Patrol Officers and wounding a California Highway Patrol Officer during a traffic stop in West Covina, California.

According to the California Highway Patrol, California Highway Patrol Officers attempted to pull over a Cadillac Escalade at around 1:40am PT on Friday, September 11th, 2015 for a traffic violation near Sunset Avenue and West Garvey Street in West Covina, California.

After the California Highway Patrol Officers pulled over the vehicle, a man exited the Escalade and shot at California Highway Patrol Officers.

As California Highway Patrol Officers returned gunfire, a 40 year old California Highway Patrol Officer was injured during the exchange of gunfire.

California Highway Patrol Officers called for backup as the suspect took off from that location.

The wounded California Highway Patrol Officer was transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and was reportedly in stable condition.

Several law enforcement agencies pursued the suspect, who was driving erratically heading eastbound on the Interstate 10.

Law enforcement agencies caught up with the suspect near Arrow Boulevard and Citrus Avenue in Fontana, California where the suspect was taken into police custody with the help of a K-9 police dog.

The suspect was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained during the incident.

Authorities believe the suspect was hit by gunfire during the earlier exchange with California Highway Patrol Officers in West Covina, California.

A shotgun was recovered inside the suspect’s vehicle and authorities were reportedly searched for a female who was also inside the suspect’s vehicle, but authorities have not at this moment said what is her involvement in this incident.
