Leslie Allen Merritt Jr. is faces 16 felony counts in connection with the Interstate 10 shootings in and around Phoenix, Arizona.

Breaking News!!: Glendale, AZ: Man arrested in connection with Interstate 10 shootings.

Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the Interstate 10 shootings in and around Phoenix, Arizona.

According to a Spokesman with Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, the Arizona Department of Public Safety SWAT and the Glendale Police Department took the suspected Interstate 10 shooter, identified as 21 year old Leslie Allen Merritt Jr., into police custody at around 6:45pm MST on Friday, September 18th, 2015 at a Walmart near 59th Avenue and Northern Avenue in Glendale, Arizona.

Authorities say the suspect was tackled at the entrance of the store and didn’t resist arrest.

Authorities are saying that at this moment, the suspect is connected with at least 4 of the 11 Interstate 10 shootings, but are still investigating the other shootings for any connects.

In a statement, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said, “I applaud the excellent work done by our state troopers, SWAT team, investigators, Col. Milstead and all the law enforcement agencies who partnered to identify this suspect and apprehend him. This was no easy case, but our law enforcement officials worked night and day from the moment these shootings began to get to the bottom of it and protect Arizona citizens. Let it be clear — those who endanger the lives of Arizona residents will pay the consequences and be prosecuted with the full force of the law.”

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office’s Public Information Office released these pictures of the 3 suspects booked for their involvement in firing projectiles at cars and pedestrians in the East Valley, Arizona area.

The 3 suspect identified as Aaron Nottingham, Christian Cook, and Albert Elijah German are facing charges of assault, endangerment and criminal damage.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the suspects are all 18 year old and admitted to firing at 7 cars and 6 pedestrians from 3:00pm to 7:00pm MST on Saturday, September 12th, 2015.

Joe Arpaio, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, told the media that it appears to be copycat crimes and are not related to the Interstate 10 shootings and projectiles in the West Valley, Arizona area.

Arizona Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Bart Graves wants the public to use this case as a warning.

– According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, 3 people are in police custody in a copycat attacks on motorists and pedestrians with projectiles and bullets.

The arrest all started after a couple’s car had it’s windows shot out by rocks on Saturday, September 12th, 2015 in the East Valley, Arizona area.

Joe Arpaio, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, told the media during a news conference Sunday that the couple called authorities last night after the driver’s side window was shattered by rocks.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the victims followed the suspects and took down the license plate of the suspect’s car.

– At a news briefing early Saturday afternoon, the Arizona Department of Public Safety had just wrapped up investigating 2 new reports of vehicle damage in which one of the 2 cases involved road debris and in the other case, damage was caused by a street sweeper.

– The Arizona Department of Public Safety has identified a Person of Interest in the interstate shootings as 19 year old Oscar de la Torre Munoz.

According to Arizona Department of Public Safety Spokesman Bart Graves, Oscar de la Torre Munoz was taken into police custody near 107th Avenue and Indian School Road in Maryvale Village, Arizona.

Oscar de la Torre Munoz was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (M.C.S.O.) Fourth Avenue Jail on unrelated charges for possession of marijuana and a woman in the vehicle were taken away, but not arrested and was later released.

At this moment, the Arizona Department of Public Safety has not called Oscar de la Torre Munoz a suspect, but say they’re questioning him about a number of things.

Arizona Director of Public Safety Colonel Frank Milstead is calling these incidents “domestic terrorism crimes.”

“Anytime that you have multiple shootings against American citizens on a highway, that’s terrorism. They’re trying to frighten or kill somebody,” said Arizona Director of Public Safety Colonel Frank Milstead.

DPS is working with ATF, FBI, Phoenix Police and Tempe Police in an effort to locate the person or people responsible.

They warn drivers to be cautious of the areas where shootings have occurred and if you see something, contact authorities immediately.

“Every tip is a potential success. It is just a matter of time, if this behavior continues, that we have tragedy on our roadways,” said Arizona Director of Public Safety Colonel Frank Milstead.
