Colorado River Tri-State: Labor Day Weekend Boating Enforcement.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, from Friday, September 4th, 2015 to Sunday, September 6th, 2015 marks the final major holiday for the 2015 boating season.

Members from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Marine Enforcement Unit facilitated a boating enforcement task force comprised of dozens of deputies and personnel from throughout the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for about 140 miles of the Colorado River to include Lake Havasu, Arizona and Parker Strip, Arizona.

This weekend’s operation involved a task force of 41 personnel from various divisions within the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the County of San Bernardino, to include the Probation Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Gang Team, Dive Rescue Team, Marine Enforcement Unit, County of San Bernardino Regional Parks, and reserve deputies and volunteers.

With heavy education and enforcement involving Boating Under the Influence, there has been a pleasant decrease of arrests over the last 6 years.

This year’s Labor Day weekend, 5 people were arrested for B.U.I., 2 people were arrested for public intoxication, and 73 citations were written for other violations.

Those violations include not having the proper U.S. Coast Guard carriage equipment on board to reckless operation.

There was a non injury hit and run reported on Saturday, September 5th, 2015 on the Colorado River near Park Moabi.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the boating public to boat safe, boat smart, and do not boat under the influence.
