Newberry Springs, CA: Collaborative investigation leads to seizure of over 11,000 plants and over 170 pounds processed of marijuana.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, on both Monday, August 31st, 2015 and Tuesday, September 1st, 2015, members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Marijuana Enforcement Team, Sheriff’s Gang Team and law enforcement officers from Campaign Against Marijuana Planting (C.A.M.P.) conducted investigations resulting in the service of 17 search warrants at locations in the unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County, California, in the community of Newberry Springs, California.

The locations were found to have large-scale outdoor marijuana cultivations in unsecured fenced in areas.

The investigations revealed all of the marijuana cultivation operations were illegal and not in compliance with California medical marijuana laws and/or the County of San Bernardino ordinance banning outdoor marijuana cultivation.

The investigations resulted in total seizures of over 11,000 marijuana plants, over 170 pounds of processed marijuana, 1 pound of methamphetamine, Psilocybin mushrooms and 3 firearms (1 semi-automatic handgun, 1 revolver and 1 bolt action rifle).

At least 34 suspects were identified and arrested for violation of the San Bernardino County ordinance prohibiting growing marijuana outdoors.

They were released with a citation and will appear in court at a later date. 2 suspects were contacted and arrested at a residence by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Gang Team who were actively looking for a wanted subject.

The deputies found firearms, methamphetamine (packaged for sales), and mushrooms.

The suspects were convicted felons.

The investigation will be sent to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

The County of San Bernardino has an ordinance in place prohibiting outdoor marijuana cultivations and marijuana dispensaries.

San Bernardino County Code Enforcement personnel assisted with the cultivation investigations for administrative enforcement of County Code violations.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Narcotics Division will continue to enforce California marijuana laws as well as the San Bernardino County Codes regarding marijuana cultivation and distribution.

Persons found to be violating state marijuana laws and county ordinances are subject to fines, prosecution and seizure of property.
