Breaking News!!: Moneta, VA: CBS affiliate WDBJ Channel 7 Photographer and News Reporter are dead after gunman opened fire during a live report.
A gunman opened fire on CBS affiliate WDBJ Channel 7 Photographer Adam Ward and CBS affiliate WDBJ Channel 7 News Reporter Alison Parker during a live report on tourism at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Virginia at around 6:45am ET on Wednesday, August 26th, 2015.
According to the Virginia State Police, “Shortly before 11:30am ET, Virginia State Police spotted the suspect vehicle headed eastbound on Interstate 66. With emergency lights activated the Virginia State Police trooper initiated a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle refused to stop and sped away from the trooper. Minutes later, the suspect vehicle ran off the road and crashed. The troopers approached the vehicle and found the male driver suffering from a gunshot wound. He is being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The male driver is believed to be the same male subject who shot three people this morning in Franklin County during a television news interview.”
According to the Virginia State Police and CBS affiliate WDBJ Channel 7, the suspected has been identified as Vester Lee Flanigan, also known as Bryce Williams, who is a former CBS affiliate WDBJ Channel 7.

Vicki Gardner of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce was also injured in the shooting and is reportedly in surgery.
Adam Ward was 27 years old and graduated from Salem High School and Virginia Tech.
Alison Parker just turned 27 years old grew up in Martinsville and attended Patrick Henry Community College and James Madison University.
According to a news release from Virginia State Police, the Franklin County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred.
Governor of Virginia Terry McAuliffe tweeted on Twitter, “Heartbroken over senseless murders today in Smith Mountain Lake. State Police on scene working w/ local law agencies to capture suspect.”
