News Update!!: Needles, CA: Responding to the community regarding new Dollar General store.

Reaction continues to come in regarding news of a new Dollar General store possibly coming to Needles, California.

Many of the comments from local residents in and around Needles, California are upset that another discount retailer or dollar type store in coming into the community instead of a new grocery store which has been a big demand since the lost of the Bashas’ Grocery Store which closed in May 2014.

Many residents want to know if the City of Needles and members of the Needles City Council is doing enough to get a new grocery store to Needles, California.

ZachNews is asking the City of Needles and members of the Needles City Council what’s being done to bring in a new grocery store; either a small market, satellite market, or a large grocery store in the community, and what would they like to tell the community regarding the reaction to the new Dollar General store.

** Responds: **

– From Needles City Council Member Shawn Gudmundson,

“I would tell my fellow Needles residents that the City of Needles welcomes any and all new businesses. Yes a Dollar General is not a full line grocery store, however it will help our residents with another option for many products. It will help generate additional tax revenue with taxes and employment. Their is not a day that goes by that our city manager, economic consultant, and this council is not out pursuing a full line grocery store.”

– From Needles Vice Mayor Jeff Willams,

“We are working in a grocery store As far as another dollar store the city is not in the position to deny any business access to our community. Everyone talks about economic development and when you get someone to build and bring a new business into the city you have the uneducated in the community say we don’t want whatever it is. We can’t listen to this ignorance due to developers talking to each other and we will get the same reputation of having willing partners and our stupidity keeping them out”

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, the Needles Planning Commission will review the request for development of a Dollar General store.

The location for this Dollar General Store is located on a hill over J Street near Hospitality Lane in Needles, California, and surrounded by the Needles’ Dog Park, the Days Inn and Suites motel, and Interstate 40.

  1. My only complaint is that that’s the worst place in town I can think of for them to build it. The best place would be the corner of Broadway where the empty Valero station is. There are also empty buildings downtown that they could move into instead of wasting money building one. Don’t complain about new business coming to town, while complaining that no new business is coming to town!
