Earp, CA: Swimming accident results in the death of a 15 year old boy from Arizona.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 2:53pm PT on Sunday, August 16, 2015, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Colorado River near the Riverview Mobile Home Park in Earp, California for a report of a drowning victim who had been submerged and missing for over an hour.
Members of the Colorado River Station’s Dive Rescue Team were assisted by a Care flight helicopter in locating the body of the victim, near the Wheeler Inn RV Park.
Dive team members removed the male victim from the water around 5:00pm PT.
The victim was 15 years old male juvenile from Wenden, Arizona and had been swimming in the river north of Riverview Mobile Home Park when he became caught in the current and carried downstream.
The victim was unable to swim out of the current and went under water and did not resurface.
Friends of the victim attempted to rescue him but could not locate him as he became submerged in the water.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
