News Update!!: Needles, CA: Mother and daughter injured in boating accident.
First responders received a call just before 1:00pm PT on Sunday, July 26th, 2015 of a boat hitting a jet ski just a quarter of a mile down from the boat launch ramp at Jack Smith Memorial Park in Needles, California.
Charles Williams, a family member from Ridgecrest, California, tells ZachNews that the family was visiting the Colorado River from Ridgecrest, California that day.
According to Charles Williams, both the watercraft and boat were traveling in the same direction along the Colorado River and the watercraft, with 2 people onboard, was turning into camp along the beach.
Charles Williams described to ZachNews the 2 people onboard the watercraft were a mother and daughter from Ridgecrest California; mother in her mid 40’s and the daughter was 7 years old.
According to Charles Williams, what the boat driver said, saw the watercraft and attempted to move out of the way, but as the boat hydro; to give the boat move power to move, the watercraft switch sides and the boat driver lost track of the watercraft.
Good Samaritans from along the beach as well from the boat that struck the watercraft jumped into the water and rescued the mother and daughter.
San Bernardino County Fire Department, Baker Emergency Medical Services ambulance, and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department both rush to the Jack Smith Memorial Park.
According to Charles Williams, as of right now, the woman suffered a severe bruise on her upper right thigh and the little girl suffered a forearm; hopefully not broken.
Both the mother and daughter were transported by Baker Emergency Medical Services ambulance to the Colorado River Medical Center in Needles, California.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were seen talking to the boat driver and the people from the boat.
Charles Williams told ZachNews that he was feeling stressed and nervous after what happened, but said that he’s hoping that everybody was okay.
ZachNews asked Charles Williams if he think this was an accident and he said, “Yes, I think it was an accident.”
