Needles, CA: Appointments to the Fire Services Task Force today.

Members of the Needles City Council will be making appointments to the Fire Services Task Force during the Needles City Council and Needles Public Utility Authority Meeting being held on Tuesday, July 14th, 2015 inside the Needles City Council Chambers located on the 1700 block of J Street near the Needles Recreation Center and Bailey Avenue in Needles, California.

The Needles City Council and Needles Public Utility Authority Meeting will start at 6:00pm PT with Executive Session starting at 5:00pm PT.

The City of Needles were seeking volunteers to serve on this new Fire Services Task Force to help develop a plan for establishment of a local fire department to serve Needles, California, and there was no residency requirements.

According to the City of Needles, at the Needles City Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 9th, 2015, a discussion was held to establish a Fire Services Task Force to assist the Needles City Manager in developing a specific plan for the establishment of a local Fire Department. That work is underway and the report will outline all of the tasks that must be completed, including definitive cost estimates to establish a local Fire Department. Citizen input is always valuable in such an endeavor in that it helps identify issues, provides technical expertise not otherwise available, and tests the viability of various solutions. A task force has a specific mission and deadline to accomplish their work and is appropriate in this circumstance. To avoid a possible conflict of interest, those appointed to the Fire Services Task Force should not be employed by the local Fire Department should one be established.

The mission of this Fire Services Task Force:

To develop options, costs and implementing measures for providing affordable and effective fire and emergency services to the City of Needles.

The following individuals have also applied to serve: Mr. David Buckley, Mr. Chad (Donnie) Zamora, Mr. Michael Wright and Mr. Merlin Willis.

Fiscal Impact:

Approximately 5 to 6 meetings including staff.

The timeline:

90 Days.

The Recommendation:

The City of Needles Mayor and each Member of the Needles City Council will appoint one member to serve on the Fire Services Task Force.
