According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 5:28pm PT on Thursday, July 2nd, 2015, deputies from the Needles Station responded to the 1900 block of Rein Drive in Needles, California to a report of a missing 2 year old child.

The mother and child were getting ready to leave their residence when the mother lost sight of her child.

The mother searched the apartment complex 20 minutes prior to calling the police.

The mother provided deputies with her child’s description and told deputies her daughter liked to play with her neighbor’s young son in the apartment complex.

Deputies began an extensive door to door search for the child.

Deputies attempted to contact the victim’s neighbors, 22 year old Jacob Gaul of Needles, California and 24 year old Gabrielle Arizaga of Needles, California, who are the parents of the victim’s friend.

Deputies knocked on the door and received no response.

A witness told deputies she heard children crying in Jacob Gaul and Gabrielle Arizaga’s apartment.

Deputies forced entry into the apartment and could hear children crying in the bathroom.

Deputies forced the bathroom door open and located the missing 2 year old victim and Gaul’s child in a bathtub filled with water.

Jacob Gaul had locked himself inside a bedroom but was subsequently taken into custody.

The children were unharmed, but were taken to a local area hospital as a precaution.

Investigators and Children Family Services arrived at the residence to conduct a thorough investigation.

Investigators discovered that the home had inadequate living conditions, lack of food, and drug paraphernalia was readily available to the children.

Jacob Gaul was arrested and booked into the Needles Jail.

The Department of Child and Family Services was contacted and responded to the Needles Station.

The Department of Family and Child Services made contact with Gabrielle Arizaga, the mother of one of the victims.
