News Update!!: Fresno, CA: Latest information regarding a gas line explosion.

ZachNews has the latest information regarding a gas line explosion that happened in Fresno, California.

A massive gas line explosion happened before 3:30pm PT on Friday, April 17th, 2015 at the Fresno County Peace Officer’s shooting range located at 7633 North Weber Avenue, near Highway 99 and Herndon Avenue, in Fresno, California.

Fresno Fire Department and medical crews rushed to the gas line explosion to put out the fire and treat people who may have been hurt well the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department evacuated in the area of the gas line explosion.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Department kept people from their homes near the gas line explosion for about 2 hours while fire department crews pulled water from hydrants to contain the large flames from this gas line explosion.

The California Highway Patrol closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 99 at Herndon Avenue because of the gas line explosion.

According to Central Unified School District, River Bluff and Herndon Barstow school buses have been re-routed away from this gas line explosion.

Witnesses who where in the area say they heard the loud gas line explosion and seen the fire with the flames shooting up more than 150 feet into the sky.

Pictures and videos of the gas line explosion were posted to social media.

According to P.G.&E., P.G.&E. Crews were able to shut off the gas to the pipeline about an hour later and flames from this gas line explosion were put out just before 4:00pm PT by fire department crews.

Fresno Fire Department continued to monitor the area of the gas line explosion and patrol the area around grass fire.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Tony Botti, a county road worker was on a tractor and struck a P.G.&.E gas line.

According to the Fresno Fire Department Chief Kerri Donis, the backhoe was turned over and was burn up by the gas line explosion and fire.

Authorities are saying that at least 16 people were injured from the gas line explosion.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department, the 2 Fresno County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were treated for ringing to the ears and sunburn-type injuries.

According to Community Regional Medical Center, at least 4 people are here in critical condition and at least 2 people were transported from Madera Community Hospital to Community Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department, at least 15 other people, including 13 jail inmates who work at the shooting range and 2 Fresno County Sheriff’s Department Deputies, were hurt in the gas line explosion.

At least 10 inmates were taken to various hospitals and at least 3 inmates were treated and released back to jail.

According to P.G.&E. Spokesperson Denny Boyles, they detected a slight change in pressure in the pipe at 2:29pm PT and was then notified about the incident a few minutes after that.

P.G.&E. Spokesperson Denny Boyles said that the gas line runs north and south and it’s buried including where the worker struck the steel.

Both directions of Highway 99 at Herndon Avenue were reopen by the California Highway Patrol a few hours later.

Crews from Union Pacific are assessing for damages to the nearby railroad tracks.

According to P.G.&E. Spokesperson Denny Boyles, this type of incident is not uncommon, and that P.G.&E. see that fairly regularly where contractors will hit lines for one reason or another.

According to P.G.&E., no calls was ever made to check for gas line or for any gas leaks in the area including at the location of the gas line explosion.

P.G.&E. is investigating this gas line explosion.

The California Public Utilities Commission has brought a team to Fresno, California to conduct a full investigation into this gas line explosion.

The gas line explosion comes just a week after the commissioners voted to fine P.G.&E. $1.6 billion for the deadly San Bruno gas line explosion that occurred at around 6:11pm PT on Thursday, September 9th, 2010 in San Bruno, California that killed 8 people and wiped out part of a neighborhood.
