News Update!!: Needles, CA: Needles City Manager Rick Daniels speaks about Bashas Grocery Store closing on Friday, May 9th, 2014.

ZachNews spoke to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels after tonight’s Needles City Council Meeting regarding the announcement that Bashas Grocery Store located at 1010 East Broadway in Needles, California will be closing on Friday, May 9th, 2014.

Bashas Grocery Store will close their store to the public on Friday, May 9th, 2014 and will then begin moving out their things after that closing date; at lease 9 days after.

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, the lease on Bashas Grocery Store as a tenant was set to expire at the end of June 2014 and the City of Needles subsidy was set to expire also at the end of June 2014 and that the City of Needles knew that since the beginning of January 2014 and so the City of Needles began working on a worst case scenario so that the City of Needles would not be caught short.

A City of Needles Official tells ZachNews that the City of Needles knew that Bashas Grocery Store was planning to close sometime in May 2014, but date was ever mention.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels also tells ZachNews that the City of Needles continue to work with Reliable Properties to reach out to other national supermarket change to come to Needles, California and replace Bashas Grocery Store and at this time, there is nothing official coming to replace Bashas Grocery Store.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels also tells ZachNews that if a national supermarket change decided in the next few weeks to come to Needles, California, it may take months to have that supermarket open up.

Earlier Tuesday, Mohave Valley Daily News reported that Bashas Grocery Store announced that they will be closing on Friday, May 9th, 2014.

ZachNews went to the Bashas Grocery Store to speak to the manager and employees at the store about the closure.

Bashas Grocery Store Managers decline to comment on the current situation.

ZachNews did talk to a long time employee who wished to not be named who told ZachNews that the word came out from Bashas Grocery Store Headquarters in Arizona late Monday and was announced during an employee meeting Tuesday morning.

The employee tells ZachNews that all the employees, which haft of them live in Needles, California, were in shock and deeply sadden to hear the announcement worry about where they go from here.

At this time, there is no word on severance packet, transfers, or relocation offers.

Also, at this time, there is no information on a store to replace Bashas Grocery Store.

As I receive information to give further clarification, I will post updates to ZachNews.

  1. It’s a bitter sweet moment to see them go, but bailing the company out is also not the way. Hopefully this works out quickly. Hate to see anyone lose their job, and Needles needs all it can get. People ready to work, not enough jobs.
