News Update!!: Needles, CA: More than 1,360 customers have their gas restored Thursday night from Wednesday’s Southwest Gas outage in Needles, California.
ZachNews has received the latest information as work continues Thursday afternoon from a Southwest Gas outage in Needles, California that happened Wednesday morning.
As of 8:30pm PT, according to Southwest Gas, “Southwest Gas personnel continue with service restoration efforts in Needles, CA, with service to more than 1,360 customers now restored. An adult over 18 years of age must be at home for service to be restored. Southwest Gas will make multiple visits to attempt to restore service. After the last attempt, SWG will leave a door tag with the phone number to call to request a service call. As a reminder to everyone affected by the outage, Southwest Gas does not ask for payment for service to be restored. If you are approached by someone asking for money to restore service, contact Southwest Gas immediately.”
As of Thursday, Southwest Gas is saying that approximately 2,019 customers were affected on the morning of Wednesday’s Southwest Gas outage in Needles, California.
Thursday afternoon, ZachNews received an email from Stephen Miller, Analyst I, Communications at Southwest Gas Corporation with more additional information saying, “We have exceeded 1,100 relights in the area. As far as number of people helping, I know 50 techs came from Vegas and some of our surrounding areas to help with relights. There is still no timeline… we will most likely keep a similar schedule to last night and then continue as needed first thing in the morning. I’m not sure what time the last update will be. That all depends on how much more gets accomplished tonight.”
On Thursday, ZachNews asked Stephen Miller, Analyst I, Communications at Southwest Gas Corporation regarding what was posted on the Southwest Gas’ News Bulletins website alerting customers about the Southwest Gas outage which said, “Southwest Gas is experiencing an outage in Needles, California, due to a third party.”
ZachNews received an email talking about the “third party” from Stephen Miller, Analyst I, Communications at Southwest Gas Corporation saying, “The standard in the utility industry is to not release the names of third parties until the investigation into the situation has been completed. While it is a pretty straightforward incident, we need to follow the policies set forth in the industry and those that we practice internally,” said Stephen Miller, Analyst I, Communications at Southwest Gas Corporation.
When ZachNews named a company that that is being said to be the cause of this outage which Stephen Miller, Analyst I, Communications at Southwest Gas Corporation told ZachNews, “I will refer to my previous response about third parties.”
A command center for Southwest Gas remains set up near the intersection of East Broadway and Goodwill Street in Needles, California.
Work crews have been seen driving in and out of the command center heading out all around the community working on the problem.
