Needles, CA: Needles City Manager Rick Daniels’ presentation on economic development and the future of Needles, California.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels presented to the members of the Needles City Council a presentation discussing economic development and the future of Needles, California during the Needles City Council Meeting held on Tuesday, November 12th, 2013 in Needles, California.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels addresses in his presentation the pitfalls of Needles, California being a tri-state area being close to those states that have less government red tape and lower taxes as well as noted the geographic isolation of Needles, California and the demographic of the population in surrounding communities in past years, but Needles City Manager Rick Daniels also address the benefits of being in this area so close to the Colorado River, Interstate 40, and being the Gateway to California.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels also presented a list of 10 actions for the Needles City Council to view and later adopt at a later time addressing the importance of the City of Needles to continue to clean their community, the importance of bring money in from outside the community for the community, the importance of being physically attractive to businesses and visitors, having good healthcare options and services, the importance of having healthy and successful school district and Palo Verde Community College’ Needles Center.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels told members of the Needles City Council as well as those in attendance the importance of partnerships within the community and around the community and the convergence of interests from the community as well as private investment.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels’ presentation wasn’t available for the public days before last Tuesday’s Needles City Council Meeting and ZachNews contacted the City of Needles, City Clerk’s Office who responded saying that there was no agenda packet for this item at this moment.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez interviewed Needles City Manager Rick Daniels shortly after presenting to the members of the Needles City Council a presentation discussing economic development and the future of Needles, California to address some of the items in the presentation.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez also asked Needles City Manager Rick Daniels to address some of the items and issues that were not brought up in presentation including the issue of cleaning up blight just in the neighborhood such as the old Overland Motel that sites abandoned, collecting dust, and being broken into; the issue of bringing more business to not just to the west end of Needles, California, but to the spread it out throughout the community including Downtown Needles, California with its many abandoned and vacant buildings wanting for a new business to come in; the issue of crime regarding recent break ins around the Downtown Needles, California which many would like law enforcement to do more patrols around Downtown Needles, California and better lighting be placed in dark and not lighted areas in the community; the issue of homelessness and the need of services to address this issue; the issue of keeping local businesses here in the community and addressing the issue of having a grocery store here in the community as well as if there is any new businesses planning to come into Needles, California; and the issue of utility rates and the concerns by many of their utilities being too high even leading to some businesses to move and close their business in past years.
