Needles, CA: “We don’t care about that here.”

When informed that a local photojournalist was mistreated and may have allegedly video taped a Brown Act violation at an invitation only event, Needles Downtown Business Alliance Member Georgia Breault told a Needles Downtown Business Alliance member, “We don’t care about that here.”

The meet and greet event was sponsored by the Needles Downtown Business Alliance and was held on Wednesday, November 13th, 2013 inside the River Edge Bar and Grill which is, according to the Rivers Edge Golf Course website, on the property of Rivers Edge Golf Course which is owned and operated by the City of Needles in Needles, California.

A Needles Downtown Business Alliance member was planning to attend to this meet and greet event, but Needles Downtown Business Alliance Member Georgia Breault told the Needles Downtown Business Alliance member, “this is an invitation only,” and “this is a private party” which the Needles Downtown Business Alliance member was denied entry into the meet and greet event.

“We just wanted to give these people a night alone with their peers,” said Needles Downtown Business Alliance Member Georgia Breault.

The meeting featured 4 members of the Needles City Council Members; Jim Lopez, Tom Darcy, Linda J. Kidd, and Shawn Gudmundson as well as the new Needles City Manager Rick Daniels who was seen talking to those invited few in the dinning and bar area of the River Edge Bar and Grill.

Before the doors into the dining hall were closed, ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez was told that he was not welcomed into the meet and greet event by Needles Downtown Business Alliance Members Jan Jernigan and Georgia Breault even when standing outside of the dinning area filming and taking pictures of people entering this meet and greet event.

As he standed near the main doorway entry into the meet and greet event, many of those attending that the meet and greet event told ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez that they were not aware or told that this meet and greet event being an invitation only event with some attendee telling ZachNews that why were you not inside already covering the meet and greet event.

In the video taken just minutes before the first member of the Needles City Council entered into the meet and greet event, Needles Downtown Business Alliance Members Jan Jernigan tells ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez, “this is a private party and we’re going to call the police.”

Later in the video, Needles Downtown Business Alliance Members Georgia Breault tells ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez, “You don’t have an invitation. I’m sorry it isn’t close enough. This is a private party; you’re not invited.”

After that encounter with Needles Downtown Business Alliance Members Jan Jernigan and Georgia Breault, ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez confronted new Needles City Manager Rick Daniels about the meet and greet event which he was going to be speaking at being an invitation only event and having the media being denied access to this meet and greet event.

The new Needles City Manager Rick Daniels looked away from ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez and gave no comment to ZachNews as he entered into the invitation only meet and greet event and being welcomely greeted by both Needles Downtown Business Alliance Members Jan Jernigan and Georgia Breault.

The mistreatment done onto a ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez by Needles Downtown Business Alliance Members Jan Jernigan and Georgia Breault was video taped as well as the internal perp walk of violators entering what was an allegedly illegal meeting with a quorum of Needles City Council members discussing issues of government intervention in our local economy.

Even when ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez was told to come to the meet and greet event by several members of their own organization as well as those who were going to attend this meet and greet event and heard nothing about or was never told that this meet and greet event was an invitation only event, both Needles Downtown Business Alliance Members Jan Jernigan and Georgia Breault seem to say differently and only wanted a selected few of people that are easily agreeable as well as welcoming members of the media who are easily controlled and censored to what to report to the public in their news story about this meet and greet event.

A reporter from the local newspaper was seen being welcomely greeted by both Needles Downtown Business Alliance Members Jan Jernigan and Georgia Breault which the reporter was seen inside the dinning and bar hall during this “invitation only” and “private party” meet and greet event until the end of the meet and greet event.

ZachNews has just recently learned from another member source that another member of the Needles Downtown Business Alliance and were members of the Needles Centennial Committee were also excluded from this meet and greet event.

Why were the organizers of the meet and greet event repeatedly saying, “this is an invitation only,” and “this is a private party” when many of those attending this meet and greet event were telling ZachNews that they were not aware of, told of, and never heard of this meet and greet event being an invitation only event?

What was discussed during this invitation only and private party meet and greet event that organizers of the meet and greet event don’t want the public, media, and members of their own organization, including those Needles Downtown Business Alliance members who were denied entry, to know about?

Only time will time when what was discussed about during this invitation only and private party meet and greet event will come into reality.
